Confidence You Can See on Stage and Beyond
No experience needed. DDI has classes specifically for beginners. You will find your footing, meet people who love what you love, and surprise yourself with what you can do.
Whether you are exploring Ballet, freestyling in Commercial Hip-Hop, or working through AcroDance, class is where you start discovering what you are good at and what keeps you coming back.
Dancers who want to grow beyond one class a week can inquire about DDI’s Company Program, a pathway for teens who are ready to take their commitment further.
Build Skill Across Every Class
Teen classes at DDI cover six disciplines, each taught with the same standard: purposeful, energetic, and real. Pick one or mix a few. Every class gives you something you can actually feel.
Fundamentals of classical ballet are introduced with an emphasis on proper alignment and technique. Students develop posture, and control through classical ballet fundamentals.Training emphasizes balance, strength, and proper placement, supporting continued growth in classical technique and movement quality.
Tap is an exercise of the feet and mind. Our program starts with the basics and builds rhythm, timing, and precision through structured footwork. Stylization and musical understanding will be developed through classic and rhythm style choreography. Students learn to produce clear and intentional sound.
Musical Theater class explores Broadway dance styles, choreography and singing from a number of different musicals. Class integrates movement, expression, and performance quality. Students learn to communicate character and intent through purposeful movement, developing confidence and stage awareness.
AcroDance is a beautiful fusion of acrobatic movement and traditional dance. Students learn foundational acrobatic skills that complement dance technique and support safe movement practices. Our curriculum provides a ladder of progression for teaching acrobatic skills for dancers’ flexibility, strength, balance, limbering, and tumbling.
Examples of Jazz styles are, Broadway, Fosse, Contemporary, & Funk to name a few. Contemporary dance is a blend of primarily ballet, jazz, modern, and lyrical. These classes will explore both styles and choreography. Specific turns, jumps and leaps are taught. Students develop coordination, flexibility, musicality, endurance and control. Dancers grow in versatility and artistic awareness in this dynamic style of dance!
Commercial Hip-Hop students will learn movements and choreography that draws from the many Hip-Hop street techniques inspired by the Hip-Hop culture, such as Popping, Locking, House, Funk, Breaking, Waacking, and Freestyle. Freestyle will promote camaraderie and community amongst the dancers while allowing the individual dancer to explore and express their unique skills and passion. Exercises performed in this class will increase strength, musicality and stamina!

Move with Energy Across Every Class
Teen dancers ages 13-18 at DDI step into classes that match their pace, whether that pace is just getting started or pushing for something more. Classes cover real technique without making it feel like a lecture. Choreography gets memorized. Combinations get cleaned. And somewhere in that process, something clicks.
What Teens Experience in Class:
- Learning combinations across multiple styles and taking choreography to performance level
- Freestyling and developing personal movement choices within a structured class setting
- Working alongside peers who are there for the same reason: to get better and have a good time doing it
- Building discipline that shows up off the dance floor too
Own Your Style
Every style at DDI builds on a technical foundation, and that foundation matters across all six disciplines. Teens develop body control, coordination, and performance skills no matter which class they are in. Once that groundwork is in place, styles like Commercial Hip-Hop and Musical Theater become the space where teens start finding their own voice and bringing their personality into the work.
Most teens do not walk in knowing which style is theirs. That is what class is for.
Class Experiences Include:
- Practicing turns, jumps, and combinations that challenge balance and control
- Learning the difference between performing at an audience and performing for one
- Taking on choreography that is worth putting on a stage
Perform on Stage with Confidence
Every DDI teen has the opportunity to perform in both a Winter Showcase and a formal end-of-season Recital. These performances are where the work becomes something you can stand behind: in front of an audience, in costume, on a real stage.
It is not about being perfect. It is about being ready.
What Performance Does for Teens:
- Turns individual effort into a shared moment with classmates
- Builds confidence that comes from doing something that takes real courage
- Gives every class a purpose that goes beyond the studio walls
Growth That Goes Beyond Dance
Families often share that their dancers leave class more confident, more focused, and proud of what they are achieving each week.

FAQs
Teen classes at DDI for ages 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, and 18 include Ballet, Tap, Jazz/Contemporary, Commercial Hip-Hop, AcroDance, and Musical Theater. Most teens take a combination of styles to build a well-rounded skill set.
We offer beginner classes as well as classes for the experienced dancer. Students are placed based on their current level so everyone is working toward the right challenge for them.
DDI holds two performance opportunities each year: a Winter Showcase and a Spring Recital. Participation in both is optional. Students may choose to take classes without the performance aspect, though we do encourage it since dance is a performing art. All details are shared with families during enrollment so you can plan ahead.
No. AcroDance blends dance technique with acrobatic skills designed specifically for dancers. Students follow a safe ladder of progression, building strength, flexibility, and balance in a controlled environment where every skill connects directly into choreography.
Dancers are encouraged to cross-train in other styles. Adding classes in additional disciplines is always a great place to start. Students may also inquire about DDI’s Company Program, which is open by audition. Faculty can advise which classes to add to help prepare for upcoming season auditions if that is the goal.
